Trial to begin over 2019 shooting death of Mobile Police officer – 1819 News

The capital murder trial of Marco Antonio Perez, 24, of Theodore, is scheduled to begin this week in Mobile County. Perez is charged in the 2019 death of Mobile Police Officer Sean Tuder. Tuder was shot and killed on Jan. 20, 2019, while serving an arrest warrant. The shooting occurred at an apartment complex off Leroy Steven Road at 3 p.m. According to police, Perez had federal warrants and had previously faked his abduction to avoid prosecution. In 2021, jurors acquitted Perez on federal charges of obstructing justice by killing a witness and firing a gun during a violent crime. Prosecutors argued Tuder did not identify himself as an officer, and Perez protected himself under Alabama’s “Stand Your Ground” law when he identified what he believed to be a threat. However, he was convicted on federal charges of possessing a stolen firearm and receiving a gun while under indictment and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Perez was denied immunity for the state charges under Alabama’s “Stand Your Ground” law. He faces the death penalty. According to Tuder’s obituary, he was 31 years old at the time of his death. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard and had been with the Mobile Police Department since 2016. To connect with the author of this story or to comment, email [email protected]. Technology is key to educating the next gener

Key points: After Covid-era shutdowns and rocky transitions to virtual education, we’re facing a crisis in education. The past three years erased decades of improvements in math and reading literacy across K-12 students. It also widened existing achievement gaps, leaving millions of children behind their American peers, and even further behind students in other countries. Increasing students’ access to technology tools in the classroom is key to reversing these trends. For teachers, closing the achievement gap will mean embracing emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Generative AI can be a low-cost tutoring tool t...

New technology to replace problematic water pipes in Crawford County - wgxa.tv

(WGXA) — Residents in the area of Moncrief Road and Highway 128 have been without water since the weekend due to what Crawford County Water Superintendent Bill Patton calls an "ongoing issue" that they have been fighting. "20 years ago, they put the water line in at the base of the creek. With erosion, the pipe's not three, four feet above the bottom of the creek, so we get five inches of rain, it just washes away, we put it back," said Patton. "We've got a plan in place, now, to just completely replace it with newer technology." He explained that the new pipe will be five or six feet below the creek bed permanently. In the meantime, mobile water tanks, also known as water buffalos, are available for residents to have access to non-potable water to use for cleaning, ...
